Kyrgyz Artist, Poet and Researcher Nariste Alieva Wins Best Presenter Award at MEDCOM 2026 in Bali

Bali, Indonesia – Kyrgyz multidisciplinary artist, poet and researcher Nariste M. Alieva received the Session Best Presenter Award at the 11th World Conference on Media and Mass Communication (MEDCOM 2026), held in Bali from March 23 to 27.

Alieva, a lecturer and PhD scholar in the Department of Public Relations and Advertising at Ala-Too International University in Kyrgyzstan, presented her paper titled “Nonviolent Linguistic Media Ecologies: Ethical Human-AI Communication in the Post-Digital Era.”

The conference, organized by the International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM), is a major international gathering for scholars, researchers and media professionals. This year’s edition attracted participants from more than 100 countries and over 350 universities, focusing on emerging issues in journalism, digital media, artificial intelligence and communication studies.

In her research, Alieva explores how artificial intelligence is transforming communication environments. She analyzes the impact of AI-generated language on users’ perceptions of empathy, safety and non-judgment. The study introduces the concept of nonviolent linguistic media ecologies, combining Marshall McLuhan’s media ecology theory with Marshall Rosenberg’s Nonviolent Communication framework.

Using empirical data, the paper argues that conversational AI increasingly acts not only as a tool but as a linguistic mediator and cognitive collaborator in everyday digital interactions.

Alieva’s presentation earned the Best Presenter Award for its originality and academic contribution.

The recognition highlights Ala-Too International University’s growing involvement in international research and its focus on interdisciplinary topics at the intersection of media studies, communication theory and artificial intelligence.

Nariste Alieva is known for her work as a visual artist, poet and cultural researcher. She founded the Cultura Nomada International Foundation and often examines themes of nomadism, digital culture and cross-cultural dialogue in both her artistic and academic practice.

Her award at MEDCOM 2026 reflects the increasing visibility of Central Asian scholars in global academic discussions on the ethical challenges posed by rapidly evolving media technologies.

Nariste Alieva is recognized far beyond academia as a multimedia artist, published poet, and founder of the Cultura Nomada International Foundation. Her creative practice – spanning visual art, writing, and cultural facilitation – often explores themes of memory, nomadism, digital ecosystems, and cross-cultural dialogue. As a self-described “Celestial Nomad,” she has long bridged artistic expression with scholarly inquiry into media, technology, and human connection.

Her dual identity as both an artist-poet and a communication researcher brings a distinctive humanistic perspective to technical discussions on AI. In an era when artificial intelligence increasingly shapes public discourse and personal interactions, Alieva’s emphasis on nonviolent, empathetic linguistic structures offers timely ethical reflections.
