Известность Ран Хвонг принесли настенные инсталляции, выполненные из пуговиц, бусин, лент и булавок. Каждый элемент ее работ символичен: булавки — это точки соприкосновения, а нити представляют связи между людьми.
Ран Хвонг получила степень бакалавра в Школе визуальных искусств Нью-Йорка. После этого она вернулась на родину в Корею, где в сеульском университете Чанг-Анг защитила диплом магистра.
Длительный процесс создания инсталляций схож с процессом медитации монахов Дзен. Забивая булавки в стену, руки повторяют одно и то же движение много раз, но результат этих усилий превосходит все ожидания и однозначно стоит того, чтобы проводить часы за работой. Таким образом, Ран хочет обратить внимание на повседневные социальные процессы, показать, как обычные вещи могут сложиться в грандиозную, единую картину.
В течение десятилетия работы Ран Хванг выставлялись как в сольных, так и в групповых экспозициях в Швейцарии, Корее, США и Франции.
